I have always been a bit nervous of Butlins with some of the negative reviews over the years. But we decided to take the plunge thinking that as long as our 2.5 year old enjoyed it...that was all that mattered. And we are so glad we did!!
We were a family of 4 adults and a toddler in a gold apartment. The apartment was fab...plenty of space and all the facilities that we needed. Plenty of coathangers that you don't normally get!! The surroundings of the apartment were great as well. Everything was so clean and tidy. The walk to Skyline was nearly 15 mins but when our daughter was in the pushchair, it was just short of 10 without rushing.
There is nothing we could really criticise - only if being uber picky. The main one being the organisation of the Justin show. We saw people start to queue at 11.30 for the 2pm show - 2.5 hours before?! We went to the evening show and one of our party queued approx 45 mins before the doors opened and we got seats and at that point, there were plenty left. By the end it was standing room only. Surely there is a better system to prevent toddlers having to queue for so long?? Maybe allocate timeslots by accommodation? Or allocate a queue 'time slot' when booking?
Other than that, we can't fault it. The shows were brilliant - Paddington and the Skyline Gang were particular favourites along with Justin. The pool was amazing, one of the best indoor pools we have been to. The entertainment through the day was also brilliant - our daughter LOVED the teletubbies. The photo queues were great as well. Even if you are right at the back of the queue, you weren't really standing there much longer than 20-30 mins and I was expecting a lot longer. The little fairground was fab and the little outside fountains next to the pool were a particular favourite, especially on the walk back to the apartment at night!
We ate out at Burger King, Firehouse and The Pub and Kitchen. We enjoyed all of the meals but the lunchtime meal at Pub was fab £6.95 for a big sandwich, chips and a drink was the best value for money. Firehouse was definitely worth a visit too and we will go back.
We booked on site for April 2020 and we have since booked to go back the week before Xmas! Thank you Butlins for a great week!!
